Dance Classes

Cecchetti Classical Ballet

Born in Italy in 1850 Enrico Cecchetti was a brilliant virtuoso dancer who went on to become the leading teacher of his generation. Pavlova and Nijinski were two of his many famous students and he worked with Rambert and Dame Ninette de Valois, the founders of British Ballet. Cecchetti’s own teaching was geared to professional dancers so the Cecchetti Society has evolved a series of graded syllabi to prepare children for the needs of the very demanding work carefully handed down from the Maestro.

ISTD Modern Theatre Dance

A description of Modern is extremely difficult as it encompasses many different styles of dance. At junior levels it is neither jazz nor disco but develops into a jazz style as the children progress through the carefully structured grades. It has many strengthening exercises for various parts of the body, rhythm sections to encourage musical awareness and lively dance sequences full of energy and fun.

ISTD Tap Dance

Apart from being an essential skill for the professional dancer it is probably one of the most enjoyable forms of recreational dance. The children love to hear the noises their feet make as they ‘tap’, ‘shuffle’ and ‘pick up’ across the floor. The tap syllabi reflects the influence of the American Tap on British Musical Theatre.

Pay As You Go Classes

Beginners  Jazz and Medal Tap are some of the PAYG classes on offer. Open to students within the Wells School of Dancing, their friends and any other children wishing to attend. Age restrictions or dance level requirements apply to some of these classes.
